Baby's First App

http://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r1000/048/Purple/9f/df/cf/mzl.pgiyrspl.320x480-75.jpg

I was given a free copy of a cool new app called Baby's First App, and I just had to pass on what I thought about it. For $.99, you get 80 slides of animals, letters, numbers, shapes, objects, and colors. Each time a new slide appears, a young child's voice says what is on the slide. To change the slide, all your baby has to do is touch the screen and a new one will appear. It's a clever, extremely simple app, and it's come in handy more than once for me while we've been out. The absolute only thing about it is that you'll have to hand over your very epensive toy to the baby, so I highly suggest you not do that while they're in a grocery cart, or anywhere above the ground at all! =)

By the way, you can't restart the app without clicking your home button and opening the app back up. This is so your baby can't do anything to your iPhone/touch/iPad while they're playing with it. It's a pretty nifty, handy app, and I recommend it! You can click here to find it.

Couch to 5K App & Program

Before I got pregnant with my second, I loved to run. Really, I loved all forms of working out, but running was my favorite. Nothing could compete with that high! I had every intention of continuing my running while pregnant with baby number two, but nausea and exhaustion got the better of me. By the time I felt up to it again, it had been months since I'd run and I didn't figure starting back mid pregnancy was the best idea. I did yoga regularly and a few other things to stay in shape, but let running go.

After I had my baby, I slacked off completely. I didn't seriously work out at all for several months. When I finally decided to pick running back up again, I knew I needed a plan. I had talked about Couch to 5k programs with a friend, so I started looking in to those. What's a couch to 5k program? Basically, it's a schedule that tells you when to walk and when to run during your workout. It builds up ever week until, at the end, you can run a 5k without stopping.

While investigating, I found an iPhone App for that program. Instead of having to stare at a stopwatch, the program tells you when to walk and when to run. It can be used at the same time as your music, so you can set up a playlist and just go! I paid the $2.99, and gave it a try. My first time running, I thought I was going to either throw up or die! I couldn't believe how out of shape I had let myself get! The second time was not as bad as the first, and I only wanted to die a few times and I didn't want to throw up..I considered this to be progress. Now, after several weeks of doing it, I am amazed at how quickly I've gotten back in to the swing of it. I am only half way through, but I am excited to get to the end. I have been looking forward to running for a long time, and I am so happy it's finally happening again! So, if you're looking for a way to ease in to running, I highly recommend this App.

Don't have an iPhone or Touch? Check out these websites for programs you don't need anything special for: http://www.c25k.com/, http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Cool Nursing Tracker App

If you've sat down to nurse your new baby and not been able to remember which side to start on, you need to check out the Nursing Tracker app on iTunes. It tracks when you last nursed, which side, and for how long. This would be super handy especially for a first time mom. You just have to remember to use it!
